F-M school board meets tomorrow morning to discuss spring break dates

— The Fayetteville-Manlius School District Board of Education is weighing its options for changing the district's April recess due to the state’s last-minute scheduling of the English Language Arts assessment during the same week.

F-M in February scheduled spring break for the 2011-12 school year for the week of April 16 to 20, 2012. On Friday, Aug. 26, the state Education Department sent a memo to superintendents across the state notifying them of the finalized test dates for the grade 3-8 assessments, which include the English Language Arts assessment on April 17 and 18 with make-up tests administered April 19 and 20.

The test dates conflict with many vacations already set by all 23 school districts within the Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES zone.

The F-M school board will hold a special meeting at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the high school conference room to discuss the possibility of rescheduling the recess dates.
