Marcellus couple launches Starfire Travel Club

First meeting will toheld at Fayetteville Free Library

— Travel experts Don and Mary Merritt, of Marcellus, have started a free travel club to bring together people interested in travel and learning about travel.

The first meeting of The Starfire Travel Club will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Fayetteville Free Library, 300 Orchard St. in the village of Fayettevile. Admission is free.

“The goal of the club is to bring together people with similar interests and get them excited about travel destinations around the world,” said Don Merritt, a retired Syracuse Fire Lieutenant and travel expert. “My wife and I have met such interesting people as we travel. Thanks to social media, we’ve kept in touch and have even planned trips with them again!”

“I’ve met so many people who would like to travel but they’ve lost their loved one and they’re not comfortable traveling alone,” said Mary Merritt, a freelance writer and associate professor of communications at Cayuga Community College. “We’re hoping this club will help bring people together so they can team up and get back out to explore the world.”

The Merritts say they hope this inaugural meeting will lead to monthly meetings featuring different travel topics. They hope to plan future session topics based on feedback from those who attend.

“It will be a nice chance to network, learn something and win some free door prizes,” Merritt said.

Light refreshments will be served. RSVP by calling 673-9194 or emailing donandmary@starfirecruises.com. Walk-ins are also welcome.
