Fayetteville-Manlius cast aside all the bad weather and immediately took command in the CNY Counties League American division, sweeping through both of its opening meets.
It all started when F-M routed Auburn in both sides of last Wednesday’s league openers. The boys Hornets beat the Maroons 120-16, while the girls Hornets handled things in a 105-27 victory.
For his spring debut, Nick Ryan ran the mile in 4:19, took just 1:58 to cover the 800-meter run and won the 3,200-meter run in 9:19. He also teamed with Bryce Millar, Connor Farrell and Andrew Berger to run the 4x800 in 8:33.1.
Kyle Barber was first in the 110 hurdles (16.4), claimed the triple jump (41 feet 8 inches) and also won the 400 hurdles in 1:02.0, going to the 4x400 relay to help Charlie Beeler, Ed Cheatham and Austin Perez (back from the knee injury that sidelined him during football season) win the 4x400 relay in 4:00.5.
Beeler (400-meter dash, 51.6 seconds), Zaire Ashley (100-meter dash, 11.2 seconds) and Jake Wittig (200-meter dash, 23.5 seconds) swept the sprints, with Ashley and Wittig joining Ryan Greer and Nick Polosky as F-M won the 4x100 in 47.9 seconds. Parker Noble was first in the long jump (18’1”) as T.J. Wheatley cleared 5’8” in the high jump.
F-M’s girls saw Jessica Puro win both the shot put (28’8 ½”) and discus (75’), with Anna Castro taking the high jump (4’10”) and long jump (14’3 ¾”). Carolina Colon added a victory in the triple jump, going 28’11”.
On the track, Caitin Ferro won twice, taking the 100 hurdles (17.9 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:16.7). Hannah Smith claimed the 1,500 in 4:55 flat, in between wins by Olivia Ryan in the 400 sprint (1:02.2) and Jessica Howe in the 800 (2:27.1) and Katie Brislin’s time of 10:14.4 in the 3,000.
