F-M tennis builds win streak to 326 matches

Hornets turn back B'ville again; J-D also unbeaten

Tournament time has arrived for the area’s high school girls tennis teams, with Fayetteville-Manlius and Jamesville-DeWitt favored to hang on to the Section III Class A and B team titles they currently hold.

And the Hornets’ win streak now sits at 326 consecutive matches after it went 3-0 early last week, centered around a 5-2 victory over Baldwinsville on Tuesday afternoon, the same margin by which F-M prevailed over the Bees back on Sept. 6.

Quickly bagging a pair of singles points, F-M saw Maggie Bonono beat Adriana Speech 6-0, 6-2, while Kristina Liu shut out Marissa Tomarello 6-0, 6-0. That made up for Shirley Zhang taking a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Kahlei Reisinger.

In doubles, with Shannon Fullam and Abby Welker falling to Lauren Dusse and Taylor Slink 6-4, 6-0, Katerina Attallah and Mary Trop needed their doubles point – and got it by taking three sets to outlast Gabby Fiello and Maddie Quilter 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The other points were a bit easier to attain, as Madison Jordan and Sienna Susko defeated Taylor Ferrari and Natalie Kot 7-6, 6-3 in an impressive first doubles showing. Laurin Goldberg and Alexandra Millimaci had a 6-2, 6-3 sweep over Hannah Mautz and Katherine Schumacher.

F-M first put together a 6-1 victory over Liverpool last Monday, the lone point for the Warriors coming when Bonomo lost in three sets to Katey Padden 7-6, 2-6, 6-4.

Otherwise, the Hornets won all the matches in straight sets, with singles points to Zhang and Liu. Then, in doubles, Attalah and Kayla Cleary-Hammarstedt fought to a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Terry Lee Bixby and Chloe Foster.

Fullam and Welker got past Kristin Glor and Megan Reilly 6-4, 6-1. The teams of Susko-Laurin Goldberg and Jordan- Millimaci dropped just five combined games in four sets.

Right after stopping B’ville again, F-M defeated Cicero-North Syracuse 7-0 on Wednesday, only going once to three sets as Jordan and Millimaci outlasted Kristin Inthirakot and Hannah Simmons 6-1, 6-7, 6-2.
